It’s still very much a time to sow on our plot.
This year we are following John Seymour’s recommendation, in his seminal Complete Book of Self-Sufficiency, to use a seed bed. This is new for us, but will save time and faff. Two of our veg beds are idle for a while longer until cucumbers, squashes and beans are ready, so I suggested we put one of them to better use. Mr Baker sowed cabbages on the left, and leeks on the right:
The cabbages are coming on nicely, and now thinned out:
Purple sprouting broccoli is now sown in seed trays:
The salad bed is doing well, though it did need a drink in that amazing spell of sunshine!
And the strawberries have begun to flower…
Do you know what these interesting-looking seedlings are?
That’s right. Onions!
Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
Have a great week. 🙂
